Ramblings of an Idle MindIdel hands my be the devils play ground, but an idel mind is TRUELY dangerous! February 14 Yeah it's been a while Here's something I got from LiveJournal and thought I'd share here. IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE? So, here's how it works: 1. Open your library (Amarok, iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc) 2. Put it on shuffle 3. Press play 4. For every question, type the song that's playing 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button 6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool...just type it in man! I used the entire music library for this, instrumentals, showtunes and all...minus the audio books and meditations. Opening Credits: Sean Paul - Temperature Waking Up: Brian Stezer - Jump, Jive, and Wail (so far so good) First Day at School: The Poxy Boggarts - Darby Ram (Leave it to me) Falling In Love: The Poxy Boggarts - Inbred Local (Oh god....that does NOT bode well) First Kiss: E-Muzeki - Kashmir Melody (is this before, durring, or after I belly dance to it???) Fight Song: Ladytron - Black Cat Breaking Up: Puddle of Mud - Psyco (Oh dear god......) Prom: Linda Ronstad - Different Drum Life: Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Otherside Mental Breakdown: Maroon 5 - Harder to Breath Driving: R. Carlos Nakai - Comes the Dawn Flashback: Jimmy Buffet - Math Sucks Getting Back Together: Spike Jones - I Want a Hippo. for Christmas (WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!) Wedding: Baby Elephant Walk (I'm not sure if I'm amused by that or not) Birth of Child: Moby - Run On Final Battle: Daft Punk - Around the World Death Scene: Tartanic - Sack of Stones (HELL FUCKING YES!!!! At least I die happy and with men without pants (because they're in kilts)) Funeral Song: Weird Al - Angry White Boy Polka (SNICKER...well I do have Czech/Ukrain family) End Credits: The Clancy Brothers and The Dubliners - Whiskey in the Jar (they dig me up 10 years later oh so well preserved.......) April 29 Many post into oneHappy Birthday to me!!! So, Monday April 21 was my birthday. Today (which is when origionally started writing this which I think was Wed. the 23rd) I got in the mail the last part of my birthday present. The present which appeared in my mail box was an art book from the anime series "Fruit's Basket" now all I have to learn how to do is read Kanji/Japanese to find out the info that's given about the pictures!! See, the book hasn't be published in America so all the captions are in Japanese; also because it hasn't be published in America I'm fairly sure the only way to get it is to find it on e-bay...not that that has anything at all to do with reading Kanji. LOL FORGET MEN IN TIGHTS, BEWARE THE FEMALE IN CAPRIS!!!! Thursday afternoon (the 24th) I pulled out my bow and headed down to the archary range. At first I was the only one on the line, so I trotted down and pinned my target up and commenced to practice. I hit a little high and slightly to the left in case you're wondering...at any rate I go through my first small target and get a half way decent group, I do the second with the same results, then while working on my third target: first through third arrows, I hear the nice sound of the arrow sliding into the back stop, forth arrow I hear noise that deffently wasn't that of the arrow hitting the normal back stop. Ofcourse I start counting the number of fletchings I can see....3...where the hell did my fourth arrow go???? No way, I didn't did I??? After taking myself down to the back stop, there's the fourth arrow sticking quite nicely out the back of the third: ROBIN HOOD!!! After fixing myself up with two new arrows minus the tips, I start to work on the fourth small target. First shot, back stop the second shot sounded a bit odd, but hit the back stop. If I had been just a hair or two lower and just a wee bit more to the left, I would have done it AGAIN!!!!!! I desided to quit while I still had usable 4 of my 6 (8 if you count the two that are now stuck together) arrows in one pice. Hello loaner I don't remember if I've ever mentioned this or not, but the screen in my laptop has been slowly dieing a painful (to me) death. It all started with one line running vertical along the screen, then two, then 6, 10, 15, 23, ect. ect. ect. until it was prety much impossiable to read. Then to add insult to injury on the right side, maybe 1 1/2 inches of screen started to flicker, then in the last couple of days, another 2 inches started flickering red. ENOUGH!! Between that and the DVD burnner not wanting to work it became time to take it to Fry's. The downside is when this all first started and I had between 4 and 10 lines in it, I took it in and asked about it. They told me it could be fixed, but would take at least 6 - 8 weeks because they couldn't fix it there it would have to be shipped off and fixed. There's a pluss, I got the extened warentee and because of that, not only was my laptop still covered but I get the use of a loaner laptop while mine's away. No where NEAR as hi-tech, (in some ways it's a step down because of Vistas) but it keeps me typeing!!!! (Pictures of the Robin Hood arrows will be posted when I get my computer back...maybe sooner as I explore the features on this laptop.) April 21 Busy weekendWell, lastweekend was the 2008 virson of the MS 150 bike ride from Houston to Austin. This year, I rode in Med. Transport. 1, a 15 passanger van ment to transport non-life threating injurys to (usually) La Grange MASH or to the MASH at the finishline in Austin. Normally I might complain about a slow and boreing weekend, but given the fact that I was in a med unit, I won't. I'm not saying the weekend was accident free by any strech of the imagination, there were several transfers to the ER via ambulance and a couple of lifeflights.
The ride itself had GREAT weather, cool temps, clear sky, NO FOG, the only downside was after a supposad four years of tail wind, the poor riders had a head wind 90%+ of the way there and between that and the cool temps we had many riders drop from dehidration.
The bluebonnets were not as plentaful this year as last, but the indian paint brushes were beautiful.
April 18 Final DaysFriday Nov. 16, 2007; Between Cozumel and Galveston: The cold front that gave me such beautful sunsets the day befor gave way to 7 to 12 ft seas. Consiquently I, who had taken off her sea sick patch the day befor and didn't put a new one on, was sick as a dog all day. I did nothing but sleep and try to recover my stomic and my head. I did feel well enough to take more sunset pictures that evening. Saturday Nov. 17, 2007; Galveston, Tx Home at last!!!! Get off the boat, pick up our stuff, meet up with Pappa who was pickin' us up from the dock and head home!!! A great week, can't wait to do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! March 23 ...On board this (not so) tiny Ship.Thursday Nov. 15, 2007: Cozumel, Mexico
After being stalked through the night by Fanticy, we pull into dock about 8am. For me there's not a lot of time to sit back and sight see just yet, I've got a shore excursion to go to! After meeting with the rest of the group that was going, we were put in shuttle vans and taken to a spot for clear bottom kayaking and snorkling. It was fun, but a little disipointing. There were not a lot of reefs in the area we were in and the so therefor the fish life was not plentaful. No matter how you cut it, it was still great fun, but I wouldn't go back to that one if I had the chance.
After depositing my suit back in my room, I ran back out for a little bit of shopping and take a few pictures. Sadly though I don't have many pictures to show for this day as the ones i took snorkling are on 35mm film. Shortly after reporting back to the boat, we left port and set sail for home, and thanks to some cloud cover that was coming in advance of a front, I do have some awesome sunset pictures.
Sunday, March 23, 2008; Spring, Texas; 6:30am: A two for one deal
For the last 12 days, 16 hours, and counting we've had a bit of science history hapning. Yesterday a record 5th space walk was made while the ISS and Space Shuttle were working in tandam. When the Shuttle lands Wednesday, a record 15 days will have been spent in orbit by the shuttle. This was a morning for feeding my love of space flight. Thanks to the Human Space Flight - Orbital Tracking Webpage I found out that the last 3 days and many of the upcoming days are firtal ground for seeing the ISS/Shuttle and the Automated Transfer Vehical (ATV) in the night or early morning sky.
After a failed attempt yesterday morning thanks to cloud cover, Mom and I went out again this morning in search of a sighting. A small fast travling light in the early morning sky...no flashing lights, there it is!! or is it? Apparently we caught a glimps of a satalite orbiting around. A min. later, we see a much larger, brighter, and equally fast moving light in the morning sky with no flashing lights ...no...THERE IT IS!!!!
Happy Easter!!
Resee February 26 ...That started from this (not so) tropic port...Yes, I am ashamed that it's taken this long to make this post. I don't have any defence, all Ican do is ask for your forgiveness.
Wed. Nov. 14, 2007; Porgreso, Mexico:
We roll out of bed that morning to a "quiet" ship. I don't mean there's not noises of people on the ship and in the halls and whatnot but you don't hear or feel the engines running. Must mean that we're in port! Our view for the morning?
HUH??? Someone put a large mirror up outside?? Nah, it's just our "sister ship" Fanticy joining us in port from New Orleans. She met up with us in Progresso, "followed" us to Cozumel, and left there sometime after we did to head home.
Porgresso is an interesting little place, generally more known for the shore excursions than the shopping, the reason for this is because apparently Porgresso is the closest dock to several of the ruins, mainly thoes of Uxmal and Chitza-Nitza. I don't know if it's because of water depth or if it's another reason, but docking at Progresso isn't like any other dock that I've pulled into. You walk a short distance down the dock and go through a small shop area once through that you pass throul an area of store fronts all selling tourist things (fancy sombrero's, mexican blankets, ect.) you arrive to a shuttle pickup/dropoff area. These shuttles are for your excurision pickups as well as for going into town. The city of Porgresso is a maybe 15 min or so ride down a very long pier. Well....here, see for yourself:
Porgreso 1 show's the cruise ship docking area, roughly center top, the long pier, and then the city of Progreso itself. Progreso 2 is labled 1, 2, and 3 (I applogize if it's hard to read I couldn't get the font to change color in Paint Shop); 1 is the shop that you have to walk through, 2 is the asile of shops that you pass, and 3 is the pickup/dropoff area. Pictures via Google Earth (love that program!!!)
So anyway, if taken into town, the bus drops you off just outside of a small flee market. From there you can browse the market, take local tours of the city, or head off to the beach. I stayed at the flea market with a couple of friends and is where I did my shopping, which erned me pats on the head from some friends once back on board. I think we spent all of maybe a hour shopping, then one in our party went to check out the beach and myself and the remaining person in our party took off and walked maybe 2 blocks befor desiding to go back to the ship.
The Porgresso beach isn't exactly "clean", but I think it's cleaner than Galveston and I KNOW it's better than Veracruze. The water is a slightly muddy brown, but it doesn't go as far off the shore as it does in Galveston and while the sand isn't white, it's not as dark as Galveston (although Galveston looks pristeen compaird to bits and pices of Veracruze).
The day ended with dinner where the group I was with (there were 40 of us if I didn't mention that befor) going from table to table, everyone sharing what they did and saw while on shore. Some of the more amazing things that happened, two of the members of the group meditated while in one of the ruins (I think it was Chitzna-Nitza); the first was wearing a moon stone that turned an absloutly BRILANT blue, the other who's worn a hearing-aid in one ear for years had her hearing clear up and has been able to go without it since then. There were shows after dinner, the casino was open, as were many of the clubs on board. I spent maybe a half hour at the "deck party" and desided that it was fun, but not for me, and then I returned to my cabin to read befor falling asleep because Cozumel was going to be a long day!!!
Various pictures from the day:
December 17 ...A Tail of a Faitful Trip...Sorry for the delay. I've been burryin' myself in doctors apointmets (mom), the hospital (again (mom)), and WoW (All me). So lets pick up where we left off which would be...
Tuesday Nov. 13, 2007; Somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico between Galveston, Tx and Progresso, Mexico:
We really weren't tired or anything....really. As I mentioned befor, we went to bed early; what I didn't mention was that it was about 11:30 befor we could finally roll ourselfs out of bed and do much of anything without risk of falling asleep while in the process of doing said action. The days activities included (but were not limited to) bingo, free golf clinic, Men's Hairy Chest Compition, ice carving demo, and the main attraction for the day the Captian's Cocktail Party. The weather was fantastic, didn't have a cloud in the sky til about 6:30 or so and even then they were rare. Went to bed kinda early again, did stay awake a little longer this night but didn't leave the room. (Pictures of the day do exist at the bottom of the blog)
In other news:
I noticed I never did fill in the info from when we went through the chaos of the propane. They showed up, did a leak check, and we found out that the smell that's been permeating the house was propane and that our dryer/house has been a bomb waiting to go off. The propane company can't fix it, call Conn's who we got a run-a-round with (I've always said there's something wrong with a place that says "Trust the pro's at Conn's") finally discover after they FINALLY make it out that they can't fix it, call Mr. Rooter...THEY FIXED IT!!!!!!! So we now have our dryer back, and no smell of propane!!!
